It has been alleged that the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle’s plan to return to acting after years has been cancelled. It was suggested that Markle was in talks to take a role in the third season of the Netflix series The Gentlemen, directed by Guy Ritchie, but that this plan did not move forward.
Tina Brown, former editor-in-chief of Vanity Fair and The New Yorker, argued in a statement on Saturday that preparations to include Markle in the show's cast had been shelved. Brown stated that the decision was linked to the backlash in the UK, saying:
"The reaction in the UK was so intense that it became impossible for the project to proceed in that way."
The Gentlemen was produced as an adaptation of Guy Ritchie’s 2019 crime-comedy film of the same name. The film starred Matthew McConaughey and Charlie Hunnam.
Meghan Markle is best known worldwide for her role as Rachel Zane in the legal drama Suits. Markle appeared in seven seasons of the show; she had previously appeared in television productions such as CSI: NY and 90210. Her film career includes Horrible Bosses and the 2015 film Anti-Social.
It had also been reported that Markle and the Duke of Sussex, Prince Harry, were planning to return to live in the UK years after moving to the US. It was stated that the couple was expected to move into a home outside of London with their children, Archie and Lilibet.
