Zeki Müren has joined the wave of biographical films in Turkey. Following producer Mustafa Uslu's announcement that he would bring the artist's life to the big screen, an objection was raised by the two foundations that are the artist's heirs.

Following his announcement that he would shoot a new film about the life of Zeki Müren, an objection was raised by the Turkish Education Foundation (TEV) and the Mehmetçik Foundation, who are Müren's heirs.
The two foundations, which are the legal heirs of Zeki Müren, submitted a petition to the Civil Court of Peace, stating that their consent had not been obtained and requesting that the film production be halted.
The two foundations that are Zeki Müren's heirs have requested an 'injunction' for the film titled 'Adım Saklı Kalsın' (Let My Name Remain Hidden).
WHO IS ZEKİ MÜREN?
Zeki Müren was born on December 6, 1931. Known as the "Sun of Art" and "Pasha," Müren is considered one of the greatest names in Classical Turkish music.
Due to his contributions to the arts, he was awarded the title of "State Artist" in 1991.
The artist, who was also the first recipient of the Golden Record Award in Turkey, recorded over six hundred records and cassettes and composed over three hundred songs throughout his musical career.
CHILDHOOD AND EDUCATION
He was born in the Hisar district of Bursa, in a wooden house numbered 30 on Ortapazar Street, as the only child of Kaya and Hayriye Müren. His family had migrated from Skopje to Bursa. His father was a lumber merchant. He was a small and frail child. He was circumcised in Bursa at the age of 11.
He attended primary school at Bursa Osmangazi Primary School (later Tophane Primary School and Alkıncı Primary School). His talent was discovered by his teachers while he was still in primary school, and he began playing lead roles in school musical performances. His first role in his life was the role of a shepherd in one of these performances.
He completed middle school in Bursa as well, at the 2nd Middle School in Tahtakale. After finishing middle school, he told his father that he wanted to go to Istanbul, and with his approval, he enrolled in Istanbul Boğaziçi High School.
He graduated from this school as the valedictorian. He passed his maturity exams with honors and entered the Istanbul State Academy of Fine Arts (now Mimar Sinan University). He graduated from the High Decoration Department, Sabih Gözen workshop. He exhibited his drawing works many times, starting from his student years.
MUSIC CAREER
November 19, 1953, the Büyük Sinema (Grand Cinema) adjacent to Atatürk Boulevard, where Zeki Müren gave his first concert.
Zeki Müren began learning music theory and rhythm through solfège and rhythm lessons he received from tambur player İzzet Gerçeker in Bursa. In 1949, while studying at Boğaziçi High School, he continued his musical education with lessons from Agopos Efendi, the father of film director and writer Arşavir Alyanak, and another teacher, Udi Krikor.
Later, he practiced various works with Şerif İçli, who knew classical music well and had a vast repertoire; he also benefited from Refik Fersan, Sadi Işılay, and Kadri Şençalar.
In 1950, while still a university student, he won first place in the soloist exam held by TRT Istanbul Radio, in which 186 candidates participated. On January 1, 1951, he gave his first radio concert in a program broadcast live on Istanbul Radio, and this concert was very well received. The ensemble accompanying him in this concert consisted of Hakkı Derman, Serif İçli, Şükrü Tunar, Refik Fersan, and Necdet Gezen. After the concert, Hamiyet Yüceses called the studio to congratulate him.
In those years, TRT Ankara Radio was the most listened-to radio in Anatolia, and Istanbul Radio could not be heard clearly from Anatolia. That same week, clarinetist Şükrü Tunar took Müren to his own record factory in Yeşilköy and had him record the song "Muhabbet Kuşu," which was also his own composition. Thanks to this record, Müren became known throughout Anatolia.
After this successful first concert and record work, Zeki Müren began to regularly perform works on Turkish radios. His radio programs lasted for fifteen years, most of which were live broadcasts. After this, Müren devoted himself more to stage and record work.
He gave his first stage concert on May 26, 1955. He usually wore stage costumes he designed himself. He introduced various innovations such as having the orchestra wear uniform costumes and using a T-shaped podium.
He performed on the stages of the Maksim Casino for 11 consecutive years, alternating with Behiye Aksoy. In 1976, he gave a concert at the Royal Albert Hall in London, becoming the first Turkish artist to perform at this venue.
Zeki Müren recorded over 600 records and cassettes. The first song he recorded was the song with lyrics by Şükrü Tunar, "Bir Muhabbet Kuşu." In 1955, he won the first Golden Record Award given in Turkey with his song "Manolyam." He was named a State Artist in 1991.
He composed around 300 songs. The first song he composed was an acemkürdi song starting with the line "Zehretme hayatı bana cânânım," which he wrote when he was seventeen. Songs such as "Şimdi Uzaklardasın" (suzinâk), "Manolyam" (kürdilihicazkâr), "Bir Demet Yasemen," "Gözlerinin İçine Başka Hayal Girmesin" (nihavend), and "Elbet Bir Gün Buluşacağız" are his most beloved songs that are frequently performed. Zeki Müren also recorded these songs on records.
ACTING CAREER
Zeki Müren began his film acting career in 1954 with the film "Beklenen Şarkı." After this film, which achieved great commercial success, he starred in 18 more films, most of which featured songs he composed himself.
In 1965, he played the lead role in the play "Tea and Sympathy," staged by the Arena Theater.
Zeki Müren passed away on September 24, 1996.
