The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) is preparing a proposal to set the entry fee at 1 TL for citizens of the Republic of Turkey for the Theodosius Cistern (Şerefiye Sarnıcı) and all museums affiliated with the municipality.

The announcement was made by IMM Deputy Mayor Nuri Aslan at the opening of the Istanbul Bosphorus Museum and the exhibition "We Dragged the Moonlight on the Waters: A Bosphorus Story" (Mehtabı Sürükledik Sularda: Bir Boğaziçi Hikâyesi), which opened at the Kabataş Transfer Center. In addition to IMM Deputy Secretary General Mahir Polat, the program was attended by assembly members, political party representatives, neighborhood heads (muhtars), artists, and numerous Istanbul residents.

Aslan stated that the Kabataş Transfer Center was designed not only as a transfer point bringing together different transportation systems but also as a public space that strengthens the relationship between Istanbul residents and the city. He noted that the Bosphorus Museum is a new cultural venue in this area that brings together Istanbul's past and present.

PROPOSAL ON THE AGENDA ON MONDAY

In his speech, Aslan also touched upon the discussions with the General Directorate of Foundations regarding historical structures, stating that the IMM will continue to invest in cultural heritage. Recalling the 1 TL entry fee applied at the Basilica Cistern (Yerebatan Sarnıcı), Aslan announced that the same practice would be initiated for the Theodosius Cistern.

“Just as we made the Basilica Cistern one lira, I announce here to all citizens of the Republic of Turkey that visiting the Theodosius Cistern will also be one lira from now on.”

Aslan stated that if the proposal is ready in time, it will be submitted to the IMM Assembly on Monday, adding, “We will also propose to the IMM Assembly that entry to all IMM museums in Istanbul be one lira for Turkish citizens.” Aslan said he believes the proposal will be accepted unanimously by the Assembly.

The IMM is preparing to submit a proposal to the Assembly for a 1 TL entry fee practice at the Theodosius Cistern and municipal museums.

The "We Dragged the Moonlight on the Waters" exhibition, which has been opened, explores the historical and cultural transformation of the Bosphorus through maps, engravings, photographs, postcards, books, periodicals, and works from Turkish painting. The exhibition is curated by Ali Kayaalp.

IMM Deputy Secretary General Mahir Polat also stated that the Istanbul Bosphorus Museum project is based on a preparation process of approximately four years and collective effort, expressing his satisfaction with the project meeting the people of Istanbul.
