Real Animal Anatomy exhibition in Istanbul
Described as the world's most comprehensive animal anatomy exhibition, 'Body Worlds: Animal Inside Out' has met its visitors at Metropol Istanbul. The 200-kilogram, 1.85-meter-tall gorilla named 'Artis' featured in the exhibition has drawn attention with its story.

The Real Animal Anatomy Exhibition offers the opportunity to explore the complex biology of numerous magnificent creatures, from giraffes to elephants, and from sharks to octopuses.
Designed for people of all ages, from 7 to 70, to easily understand animal anatomy, the exhibition displays the inner worlds of animals in detail thanks to the plastination technique, which stops decomposition.
The scientist behind this work, Prof. Dr. Gunter von Hagens, specifically emphasizes that no animals were killed or harmed in any way for the exhibition.
THE STORY OF THE GORILLA
The story of 'Artis', the 200-kilogram, 1.85-meter-tall gorilla that meets visitors and attracts attention at the exhibition, is quite remarkable.
'Artis' tragically lost his life in May 2000 while swimming in a water canal at the zoo where he lived. The zoo director, Klaus-Michael Machens, who loved him dearly, was deeply saddened by this situation. After thinking about what to do for a long time, Machens decided to donate his body to the Body Worlds Exhibition, which he had visited previously and been very impressed by.
Stating, "We wanted to preserve Artis so that future generations could see him," the director handed him over to Dr. von Hagens, one of the creators of the exhibition.
Dr. Hagens and his team spent more than 3,500 hours of work to bring this 17-year-old lovable gorilla to millions of science and art enthusiasts.
