Two prominent foreign productions of the summer season have reached remarkable figures at the Turkish box office. Spider-Man: A Brand New Day, starring Tom Holland, was watched by 725 thousand 411 viewers in its first weekend after being released on July 31.
The film met with audiences in 1174 theaters over the weekend and grossed 228.1 million liras in its first three days. With this result, the production achieved the best opening weekend of 2026.
The new Spider-Man film also made a strong start in terms of the series' performance in Turkey. The production became the best opening of the series since Spider-Man: No Way Home, which opened with 934 thousand 599 viewers. That film had reached a total of 2 million 886 thousand 133 viewers in Turkey.
The record for the best opening in the history of the Turkish box office is still held by Recep İvedik 5 with 1 million 646 thousand 846 viewers. Recep İvedik 4 ranks second on the list with 1 million 641 thousand 474 viewers, and Düğün Dernek 2: Sünnet ranks third with 1 million 380 thousand 122 viewers.
A STRONG PICTURE AT THE GLOBAL BOX OFFICE
The international performance of Spider-Man: A Brand New Day also drew attention. The film reached a global opening gross of 927 million dollars. This figure was recorded as the second-best global opening in cinema history.
Avengers: Endgame tops the global opening list with 1.22 billion dollars. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige evaluated the new film's box office performance with the words, “A truly extraordinary opening.”
Another ambitious production at the box office, The Odyssey, has passed the 1 million viewer threshold in Turkey. The film, directed by Christopher Nolan, was released on July 17; it had reached 228 thousand 300 viewers and grossed 84.4 million liras in its first weekend, during which it was shown in 766 theaters.
Reaching a total of 1 million 39 thousand 973 viewers over a three-week period, The Odyssey's box office revenue in Turkey rose to 350.7 million liras. With this performance, the film placed 69th on the list of the most-watched foreign films in Turkey.
While it is noted that The Odyssey is shown primarily in IMAX theaters, the lack of 70 mm IMAX theaters in Turkey and the limited number of digital IMAX theaters are cited as factors affecting the film's box office potential. On a global scale, the production earned 263.8 million dollars in its first week, marking the biggest opening of Nolan's career.
