Temel Kerimoğlu, the founder and 35-year operator of Beyoğlu Cinema—who rented the shops in the Halep Passage on December 10, 1989, and demolished them to build the cinema—has passed away.

In a piece he wrote in 2008, Kerimoğlu had stated, "Beyoğlu Cinema, which has been self-sustaining for several years, can no longer pay its fixed expenses; therefore, if we cannot find a way out, we have decided to close Beyoğlu Cinema in July as it will not be able to make it through this summer."
