The Row Shops in Süleymaniye are brought back to life as a Design Museum
The previously idle Row Shops in Süleymaniye have been brought back to life as the 'IMM Istanbul Design Museum.' The museum, which underwent restoration by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Department of Science Affairs and a repurposing process by IMM Heritage, opened its doors with a ceremony held on Wednesday, January 31, with the participation of IMM Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu.

The Row Shops in the Süleymaniye Mosque Complex, one of the most important structures of Istanbul's cultural heritage, have been repurposed as the "IMM Istanbul Design Museum," brought to life through the meticulous restoration by the IMM Department of Science Affairs and the innovative vision of IMM Heritage.
The historic bazaar of the Süleymaniye region, which had remained silent for many years, has been revitalized by the dynamism of various components coming together in the fields of craftsmanship, design, and culture and arts.
The museum opened its doors with a ceremony held on Wednesday, January 31, with the participation of IMM Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu.
AIMS TO MAKE THE CITY'S POTENTIAL VISIBLE
The Istanbul Design Museum, whose repurposing process was designed by IMM Heritage, brings the past and the future, the traditional and the modern, under the same roof on the street where the tomb of Mimar Sinan, the unique designer of Istanbul who added unparalleled structures to the city's silhouette, is located and where his house once stood.
Aiming to spread the excitement of co-production and design to the entire city by bringing creative fields as well as traditional arts to the region, the Istanbul Design Museum adopts the mission of adding value to the Süleymaniye region while aiming to reinforce Istanbul's title as a design city and make the potential offered by the city visible with a sustainable approach.
MEETING POINT OF CRAFTSMANSHIP AND DESIGN
As a part of the Süleymaniye Mosque and Complex, the Row Shops have played an important role in urban life for centuries; they are one of the city's most important heritage sites with their history, cultural texture, and function.
With the Istanbul Design Museum, respected brands and institutions in a wide range of fields—including lighting, furniture, jewelry, porcelain, ceramics, digital and graphic design, illustration, architecture, culture and arts, and corporate space design, as well as crafts facing extinction such as felt-making, stained glass, and quilting—are meeting with Istanbulites in the workshops located in the historic area.
The museum aims to be a center of attraction for the region with its social spaces, shops that bring together artisans, designers, and artists, and its workshops and events that will make Istanbulites a part of the production here.
