Veteran actress Devlet Devrim passes away

Devlet Devrim, one of the unforgettable faces of Turkish cinema, has passed away at the age of 81. Devrim, who began her artistic journey after being selected as a “cover star” by Ses Magazine in 1962, quickly made a name for herself in both the cinema and the gazino (nightclub) world. The news of the artist's death was shared with the public by the Film-San Foundation, where she had served for many years.

Having appeared in over 70 films throughout her career, Devlet Devrim also served as the Vice President of the Board of Directors for the Film Industry and All Artists Empowerment Foundation (Film-San Foundation). In a statement released by the foundation, it was stated: "We have lost the 'Black Bead,' the violet-eyed actress of Turkish Cinema, Devlet Devrim. We are deeply saddened. Our condolences." No official information regarding the cause of the famous actress's death has been shared yet.

WHO IS DEVLET DEVRİM?

Born in Alexandria, Egypt, in 1944, Devlet Devrim began her life as the child of an Egyptian father and a Turkish mother. She stepped onto the silver screen in 1963 with the film Çiçeksiz Bahçe, directed by Ümit Utku and starring Orhan Günşiray and Nebahat Çehre. She took part in cinema projects continuously until 1969.

Devrim, who also turned to a stage career for a period, left her mark on different fields of art by singing. She ended her stage work upon her marriage in 1971. However, she returned to the screens in 1999. She appeared before the audience as the character “Arap Zehra” in the series Kurtlar Sofrası, which was adapted from the work of the same name by Attila İlhan.
