1 billion dollar money laundering operation in Çeşme, İzmir
In the Çeşme district of İzmir, a police operation was launched following a tip-off that certain companies were attempting to launder money by falsifying export documents. Four customs officers and two individuals identified as company officials were detained. It was learned that the amount of money in question exceeds 1 billion dollars.

A 1 billion dollar money laundering operation was carried out in the Çeşme district of İzmir.
According to the information obtained, an investigation was launched after some companies applied to the Çeşme Customs office to collect payments for exports that were allegedly made on paper, but no such transactions appeared in the system. As a result, four customs officers and two civilians appearing as company officials were detained last Thursday by teams from the İzmir Police Department's Financial Crimes Bureau, the Anti-Smuggling and Organized Crime Bureau, and the Çeşme Police Department.
It was learned that the transaction was entirely an attempt at money laundering, and it was stated that the figure in question exceeded 1 billion dollars.
The incident came to light while attempts were being made to clean and integrate money obtained from betting rings or drug trafficking into the system; following an investigation, it was learned that the company or companies had not carried out any such exports.
