12 arrested in illegal betting operation targeting 2026 World Cup final

Twelve out of 16 suspects detained as part of an investigation launched by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office into allegations of illegal betting on the 2026 World Cup final match have been arrested.

The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office had identified a total of 19 external financial houses where a panel system integrated into illegal betting sites was found to be located.

As a result of the operations carried out at the identified addresses, 16 suspects were caught in the act and taken into custody.

The 16 suspects, whose procedures at the police station were completed, were referred to the Istanbul Courthouse.

Of the 16 individuals whose statements were taken by the prosecutor's office, 13 were referred to the Duty Magistrate's Court with a request for 'arrest,' and 3 were referred with a request for 'judicial control measures.'

Following the completion of their statements before the judge, arrest warrants were issued for 12 of the suspects, while 4 individuals were released under judicial control conditions.
