Especially during this period of economic hardship, the construction of a 'magnificent' government mansion for a district of 15,000 people has led to questioning the notion that "there is no austerity in prestige." Meanwhile, social media users have shared posts suggesting that the government mansion resembles the Presidential Palace in Beştepe.

CHP Keçiborlu District Chair Ergun Ali Soysal evaluated the issue of the massive government mansion in the district of 15,000, which has become a trending topic on social media, for 12punto.

'IT COST 15 MILLION TL'

Stating that the construction of the government mansion began in 2016-2017, Soysal noted that a contractor from Çorum was involved in its construction. Explaining that the construction cost 8 million TL, Soysal said, "After the construction, at least 2-3 million TL was spent on renovations and maintenance. The government mansion cost approximately 15 million TL in total."

'WE DID NOT NEED IT'

Stating that the district did not need a government mansion, Soysal expressed the following:

"Actually, this was not something that was needed. We had a hospital before moving. Before our hospital was moved, 500 thousand TL worth of renovations had been done; it was a huge hospital with 10 staff residences. It was also adjacent to the main road, meaning it was easily accessible. We had no need for a new hospital. Our old hospital was one floor larger than the current one. Right now, those residences are completely empty and are being looted. These things are not born out of necessity. We moved to a new hospital, and the old hospital is just standing there empty. These matters were seriously debated during the elections. There was no need for it at all."
