It is the 50th anniversary of the Cyprus Peace Operation, which remains etched in memory for former Prime Minister Bülent Ecevit’s coded instruction “Ayşe should go on vacation” and which initiated the process leading to the establishment of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).
