WHAT HAPPENED?
Gülistan Doku, a second-year student in the Child Development Department at Munzur University in Tunceli, could not be reached after leaving her dormitory on January 5, 2020.
Her family filed a missing person report with the Provincial Police Department on January 6. Examinations of the Urban Security Management System (KGYS) cameras along her route showed Doku boarding a minibus, but it could not be determined where she got off.
Investigations determined that Doku's mobile phone last signaled at the Sarı Saltuk Viaduct over the Uzunçayır Dam Lake. Despite searches coordinated and directed by the Governor at the time, Tuncay Sonel, involving 542 personnel, 88 vehicles, 38 boats, 10 ROV devices, 6 drones, 4 sonars, and 3 search dogs—comprising teams from AFAD, the Naval Forces Command, the General Directorate of Security, the Gendarmerie General Command, metropolitan municipalities of Ankara, Denizli, Diyarbakır, Istanbul, Izmir, Konya, Malatya, Manisa, and Kahramanmaraş, as well as NGOs, universities, and volunteers—no trace of Gülistan Doku was found, and the efforts were concluded.
