15 defendants face judge in Narin Güran murder case

Following the Diyarbakır Regional Court of Justice 7th Criminal Chamber's ruling that the local court's verdict—which imposed prison sentences ranging from 1 year and 3 months to 3 years and 6 months for the crime of "aiding an offender" in the murder of 8-year-old Narin Güran—was unlawful, the retrial of 12 non-detained defendants and 3 children has begun.

In the closed hearing at the Diyarbakır 17th Criminal Court of First Instance, 2 defendants, 1 child dragged into crime, and their lawyers were present.

During the hearing, it was recalled that the 7th Criminal Chamber had ruled that the Ministry of Family and Social Services and the Saadet Teacher Association for Combating Child Abuse did not have the status of "directly harmed by the crime" and were not granted the "right to direct participation" by law; therefore, it was decided that their lawyers would not participate in the hearing.

The court, referring to the decision by the 1st Criminal Chamber of the Court of Cassation that the 4-year and 6-month prison sentence given to detained defendant Nevzat Bahtiyar for "destroying, concealing, or altering evidence of a crime" should be evaluated within the scope of "aiding in the crime of intentional homicide" and that Bahtiyar should be retried at the 8th High Criminal Court, decided to inquire whether the 8th High Criminal Court has granted consent regarding the requests for consolidation.

The hearing was adjourned to address the missing issues.
