15 more people detained following DEM Party's 'banned rally' in Diyarbakır

In Diyarbakır, legal proceedings were initiated by the Governor's Office on the grounds that terrorist organization propaganda was conducted during a press statement regarding PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan at a rally organized by the DEM Party last Sunday.

It was reported that 15 more people were detained this morning due to the rally, which had been banned by the Diyarbakır Governor's Office on the grounds of "maintaining public order and security," and that efforts to apprehend 8 others are ongoing.

The statement included the following: "15 more people, who were determined to have conducted terrorist organization propaganda during the statement made by DEM Party deputies in our province on October 13, were detained this morning. Efforts to apprehend 8 suspects are continuing. We will absolutely not tolerate those who wish to disrupt the peace of Diyarbakır."

WHAT HAPPENED?

The rally planned for Sunday, October 13, under the leadership of the DEM Party to protest the isolation imposed on terrorist organization PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan and to "draw attention to Öcalan's situation," had been banned by the Governor's Office. Following this, the DEM Party held a press statement. The police had launched an operation targeting those identified for allegedly conducting terrorist organization propaganda during the press statement, which was attended by DEM Party Co-Chairs Tuncer Bakırhan and Tülay Hatimoğulları.
