16-year-old Hüseyin detained in Rhodes! His sister announces allegations of torture

Participating in the program "Haberin İçinden" with Pınar Ergüner on TGRT Haber, Damla Madan could not hold back her tears as she described her desperation, explaining that her brother, Hüseyin Sebeb, had reached out to her to say he was being held in a detention center in Rhodes.

Describing the moment she heard her brother's voice, Madan said, "My brother called me yesterday; he was able to reach us through a gentleman there. He told me, 'Sister, I am in a detention center at the police station in Rhodes. They are keeping me here. I appeared in court on October 31, they told me they wouldn't release me, and they treated me very harshly.' My brother said he was being tortured there and subjected to violence because he had no money in his pocket. They told him that if he had some money, he could have hired a lawyer. He stated that he was beaten because he had no pocket money with him," she said.

TURKISH CHILDREN IN RHODES AND ALLEGATIONS OF TORTURE

Damla Madan stated that her brother Hüseyin told her there were other Turkish children in the detention center as well. Madan said, "Hüseyin told me there were other Turkish children there, and that there were even children as young as 9 or 10 years old. Both my brother and the other children are being held in difficult conditions," she said.

Damla Madan expressed that the families of other Turkish children in Rhodes cannot reach them and that they are in poor conditions in detention, stating, "The families of these children might think they are missing. But they are all here, being held in an open correctional facility in Rhodes. It is clear that most of these children have nothing to do with human smuggling. We do not understand why these children, especially the young ones, are being held here," she said.

"MY BROTHER IS IN A VERY DIFFICULT SITUATION"

Stating that her brother's psychological health is deteriorating, Madan requested help from state officials. Madan said, "My brother is experiencing psychological problems due to the lack of a mother and father. Now he is being tortured there and subjected to ill-treatment. My brother is in a very difficult situation. He is left hungry and thirsty, and he even has trouble reaching us because he has no money in his pocket," she said.

"VISITS ARE PREVENTED UNDER A PRIVACY POLICY"

Damla Madan said that they had contacted the authorities in Rhodes, but that their meetings with her brother were blocked due to a privacy policy. Madan continued as follows:

"Greek authorities do not allow us to meet with my brother under the guise of a privacy policy. My brother says he is being tortured, but this is being hidden from us so that his allegations are not heard. They hid his location and did not inform us. Now they are trying to cover up the truth by using the privacy policy as an excuse."

Stating that she appeared on TGRT Haber to draw attention to her brother's situation, Madan expressed that after this broadcast, the authorities in Rhodes made contact with her brother. "Because they were afraid after I went on the news, contact was established with my brother. However, the obstacles continue under the pretext of privacy," she said.

THE FAMILY APPEALS TO THE MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS AND AUTHORITIES

Damla Madan stated that they are expecting support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and all authorities, calling out, "We want my brother and the other children who are being held there unjustly to be rescued as soon as possible. Please help end the trauma these young people are experiencing," she pleaded.

The family hopes that the authorities will take action for the rescue of Hüseyin Sebeb from Rhodes and his return to Turkey.
