18 dead, 35 injured in landslide on highway in Colombia

A landslide caused by heavy rainfall occurred on a highway near the town of Carmen de Atrato in Choco.

In the incident, 18 people lost their lives and 35 were injured.

Antioquia Governor Andres Julian Rendon stated in a press release that search and rescue teams have been deployed to the region and that many people remain trapped under the soil.

Colombian Vice President Francia Marquez also reported on her social media account X that they are closely monitoring the situation.

An announcement from the Emergency Center noted that reports of multiple simultaneous landslides were received and that there could be many more people trapped under the soil than initially thought.

Officials stated that search and rescue operations are ongoing.
