Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya shared data with the public regarding traffic inspections conducted by police and gendarmerie teams over the last week in a post on his social media account.
Stating that seat belt use reduces fatalities caused by traffic accidents by 45 percent and serious injuries by 60 percent, Yerlikaya reminded that it is a legal requirement for drivers and passengers in all vehicles, including buses, to wear seat belts.
Minister Yerlikaya announced that action was taken against 210 drivers who installed and used devices with light or sound warning signals (flashers) on vehicles not permitted by legislation.
He further stated that a total of 436 thousand 589 vehicles and drivers were processed, including 127 thousand 384 for speeding violations, 26 thousand 288 for missing periodic inspections, 17 thousand 569 for not using seat belts, 15 thousand 151 for driving without a license, and 9 thousand 891 for lacking mandatory financial liability insurance.
Yerlikaya said, "The 'seat belt' is the most important protective equipment during our citizens' travels. Please, for your own safety, do not neglect to wear your seat belt 'from the moment the journey begins until it ends.' Journeys exist to reunite you with your loved ones, not to separate you from them."
