Businessman Cem Özcan has filed a 2 million dollar compensation lawsuit against Yurter Özcan, the former US representative of the CHP leadership. The case involves allegations of breach of contract and forgery. The lawsuit, which is being heard in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, was suspended after Yurter Özcan filed for personal bankruptcy in Washington last month.
In the lawsuit filed against Yurter Özcan, Cem Özcan demanded 1 million 50 thousand dollars for unpaid share prices and other financial losses, and a total of 2 million dollars including non-pecuniary damages. Özcan brought allegations of irregularities regarding Yurter Özcan's investment in the WAG Steel company and the use of forged signatures to court.
The legal process began in 2022 with Cem Özcan's proposal to invest in the WAG Steel company. Özcan stated that he made the investment with the promise of a 10 percent annual profit share, but later encountered documents regarding irregular money transfers and past debts made without the knowledge of the company's other partners.
According to Sözcü's report, in October 2023, Cem Özcan signed a 1 million 50 thousand dollar contract to purchase a 40 percent stake from Yurter Özcan. However, not only was the payment not made despite the deadline, but allegations of signature imitation and the use of forged signatures also emerged. Yurter Özcan argued that he signed a steel machine loan document that contained forged signatures.
Last month, a bankruptcy filing was made after the market value of the WAG Steel company was recorded as zero. This filing was submitted to the court where the compensation lawsuit is being heard, and the legal process was suspended.
HE DENIED THE ALLEGATIONS
Yurter Özcan denied the allegations regarding the lawsuit. Özcan stated, 'This is a commercial contract dispute, there is no forgery.' The legal process will remain suspended until Yurter Özcan's bankruptcy filing is concluded.
Stating that all correspondence and photographs regarding the machines, which the plaintiff claims to have no knowledge of, have been submitted to the court, Özcan made the following remarks:
'The case will be dismissed this year. The plaintiff has made such a move to escape his responsibility regarding the debts arising from the partnership. The baseless allegations will not find support in court. I am 100 percent sure that we will win.'
Cem Özcan's lawyers stated that the process would be followed in criminal courts, emphasizing that the allegations would be resolved through legal channels.
