2 semi-trucks collide on TEM Highway: Istanbul-bound lanes closed to traffic

In an accident involving two semi-trucks on the Kocaeli section of the TEM Highway, a driver trapped in his vehicle was rescued by fire crews and taken to the hospital. Due to the accident, traffic flow in the Istanbul-bound direction was provided under control from a single lane for a period of time.

Around 13:00, on the Istanbul-bound direction of the TEM Highway near the Şirinyer location in Körfez district, a semi-truck with license plate 42 BES 996, loaded with paper, overturned after the driver lost steering control. At that moment, the driver of a semi-truck with license plate 41 ASF 137, loaded with nylon and traveling in the same direction, swerved to avoid hitting the overturned vehicle, went off the road, and crashed into the barriers.

FIRE CREWS RESCUED THE TRAPPED DRIVER

In the accident, the driver of the overturned semi-truck with license plate 42 BES 996 became trapped inside the vehicle. Upon notification by bystanders, fire, medical, and gendarmerie teams were dispatched to the area. The injured driver, who was extracted from where he was trapped as a result of the work of the fire crews who arrived at the scene, was handed over to medical personnel. The injured driver, who received initial intervention at the scene, was taken to Kocaeli City Hospital by ambulance. The driver of the other semi-truck that hit the barriers escaped the accident without injury, while his vehicle sustained heavy damage.

TRANSPORTATION RETURNED TO NORMAL AFTER 3 HOURS

Due to the accident, traffic flow in the Istanbul-bound direction of the highway was provided under control from a single lane for a period of time. Transportation in the area returned to normal after approximately 3 hours of vehicle removal and cleaning work by fire and highway teams.

An investigation into the accident has been initiated.
