Akçaabat Municipality Police Department teams are continuing their operations against beggars. During the inspections, legal action is taken against the beggars, and the money they collect is confiscated within the framework of the law.
During the inspections carried out in 2024, 22,636 TL found on 25 beggars was confiscated, and an administrative sanction report was issued for each beggar.
Stating that some beggars come from outside the province to work on a daily wage basis, while others consist of families residing in Akçaabat who have made begging a profession, the Police Department teams emphasized that citizens should not pay attention to beggars and should not give them money.
Noting that citizens have important responsibilities, Akçaabat Mayor Osman Nuri Ekim said, "The money found on the beggars collected from busy streets and avenues by our Police Department teams is confiscated, and the necessary procedures are carried out in accordance with the Misdemeanors Law. Here, our citizens also have important duties. We ask that money not be given to these individuals. As long as money is given, they continue to beg and exploit emotions.
They even adopt this as a profession and do it as a family. We request that our citizens do not pay attention to such people who want to obtain unfair earnings and that they file complaints with our Municipality's Police Department. I would like to state that our inspections will continue uninterrupted so that our citizens can live in peace. I would also like to emphasize that as a result of our diligent work, the number of beggars in our Akçaabat is very low compared to neighboring provinces and districts."
