A total of 221,717 people visited Anıtkabir, the eternal resting place of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Republic of Turkey, on the occasion of the May 19 Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day.
Following the official ceremony held in the morning with the participation of Minister of Youth and Sports Osman Aşkın Bak, Anıtkabir was opened to the public between 10:00 and 21:00.
Thousands of citizens of all ages, waiting at the entrances of the Mediterranean and Anatolian gates of Anıtkabir, visited their leader with Atatürk posters, Turkish flags, and flowers in their hands.
Anıtkabir, which saw intense interest due to the May 19 Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day, hosted 221,717 people. Some of the citizens who placed flowers at Atatürk's mausoleum recited prayers.
The ceremony performed by the soldiers during the changing of the guard was watched with interest by the citizens. Those visiting Anıtkabir took photographs in the ceremonial area.
