Prof. Dr. Bekir Karasu, a faculty member at the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Eskişehir Technical University, who left his home on June 27 and was not heard from again, was found dead in the Porsuk Stream following a 5-day search operation.
The Eskişehir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has issued a confidentiality order and launched an investigation into the death of Prof. Dr. Karasu.
As a result of the examination of KGYS (City Security Management System) and security camera footage by teams from the Murder Bureau of the Eskişehir Police Department's Public Security Branch, it was determined that Prof. Dr. Bekir Karasu had picked up 2 Iranian nationals in his vehicle before he disappeared.
It was determined that the Iranian nationals who got into the vehicle were Majid S. and Hojjat S., and that they had fled to Adana around the time of Prof. Dr. Bekir Karasu's death.
A special team formed by the Eskişehir Police Department's Murder Bureau to apprehend the Iranian nationals caught and detained Majid S. and Hojjat S. in Adana while they were preparing to flee the country.
Additionally, as a result of the operations, 2 suspects who were determined to have taken the Iranian suspects from Eskişehir to Adana were detained in Adana, and 1 suspect who was determined to have a possible connection to the murder was detained in Eskişehir.
THEY TRIED TO BLAME EACH OTHER FOR THE CRIME
It was learned that the 2 Iranian suspects, who were interrogated at the Eskişehir Police Department, tried to blame each other for the murder in their initial statements. The teams continuing the investigation obtained a confession from the Iranian suspects that they had thrown Prof. Dr. Bekir Karasu into the Porsuk Stream, which passes through the Karacaşehir neighborhood of the Odunpazarı district. Intensifying their efforts in line with the suspects' statements, the teams reached the body of Prof. Dr. Karasu.
The 5 suspects, whose procedures in custody were completed, were referred to the courthouse this morning. The 5 suspects, who were taken to the Eskişehir Courthouse from the garage, were referred to the Criminal Judgeship of Peace with a request for arrest on charges of 'intentional killing, robbery, and harboring a criminal' following their statements to the prosecutor.
Among the suspects who appeared before the judge, Iranian nationals Majid S. and Hojjat S. were arrested on charges of 'Intentional Killing', and Gökhan E. was arrested on charges of 'Harboring a criminal'. It was decided that the other 2 suspects would be released under judicial control conditions.
