In a written statement issued by the Ankara West Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was recalled that B.S.B., one of two children trapped in an apartment elevator in the Fevzi Çakmak neighborhood, lost her life after falling into the elevator shaft during a rescue operation by fire department teams.
The statement noted that an expert report obtained as part of the investigation determined that firefighters E.A., B.Y., and B.B. were at fault. It was also recalled that following the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office's letter dated July 25, the Ankara Governorship granted permission for an investigation into the individuals in question, and that the suspects had appealed this decision.
Following the rejection of this appeal, the statement indicated that the 3 firefighters were taken into custody and, after being referred to the courthouse, were arrested by the Ankara West Duty Magistrate's Court on charges of "causing death and injury by negligence.".
