38 people had lost their lives: Sentences for the 2 imprisoned contractors of the Dündar Apartment building have been announced

In the trial regarding the Dündar Apartment building in Diyarbakır, which collapsed during the February 6, 2023, Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquakes, resulting in 38 deaths and 37 injuries, the 2 imprisoned contractors among the 3 defendants were sentenced to 13 years and 4 months in prison each.

Diyarbakır 8th High Criminal Court hearing was attended by the imprisoned contractors Sercan Erbey and İlhami Dündar via the Audio and Video Information System (SEGBİS) from prison, while the landowner Seydo Bozkaya, who was being tried without arrest, did not attend.

In his final opinion, the public prosecutor requested that the imprisoned defendants Erbey and Dündar be punished for the alleged crime and that their detention continue, while requesting the acquittal of the defendant Bozkaya, who was being tried without arrest.

Defendants Dündar and Erbey requested their release, citing health problems. Their lawyers also argued that their clients were innocent and requested a decision for their release.

In the decision taken unanimously by the court panel, it was ruled that Erbey and Dündar be sentenced to 13 years and 4 months in prison each for the crime of "causing the death and injury of more than one person with conscious negligence."

The court decided to acquit Bozkaya.
