4 international agreements approved in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey

In the General Assembly, the first item discussed was the Bill on the Approval of the Preferential Trade Agreement Between Turkey and the Maldives.

Speaking on the articles of the bill, New Way Party (Yeni Yol Partisi) Istanbul Deputy Mustafa Kaya touched upon the ceasefire agreement reached in Gaza, which is expected to come into effect, and stated that an infrastructure must be established to ensure the ceasefire turns into a lasting peace.

Kaya stated that after the hostage exchange is secured, Israel could resume its attacks with a provocation or any other pretext, and said that all countries must be vigilant in this regard.

İYİ Party Secretary General and Antalya Deputy Uğur Poyraz reacted to the situation by stating that slogans were chanted in the Parliament in favor of the PKK leader. Following this, a debate broke out between İYİ Party and DEM Party deputies.

MHP Deputy Chairman and Kayseri Deputy İsmail Özdemir stated that expanding the scope and volume of existing trade agreements should be the main strategy.

Özdemir expressed that this understanding is being successfully implemented in the policies pursued by the government, stating, "With the world showing a tendency to recover after the coronavirus pandemic, the fact that Turkey has continued to grow uninterruptedly for a total of 17 quarters since 2021 shows that successful work is being carried out not only economically but also in terms of foreign policy."

CHP Eskişehir Deputy Utku Çakırözer used the expression regarding the ceasefire agreement reached in Gaza, which is expected to come into effect, "It is gratifying that the Netanyahu government's attacks, which have turned into genocide, will come to an end and that no more innocent Palestinian civilians will die."

AKP Bartın Deputy Yusuf Ziya Aldatmaz also expressed his hope that the ceasefire agreement reached in Gaza, which is expected to come into effect, would be the beginning of a process that would protect the lives of innocent people in the region.

Stating that he sees this development as a hopeful step for the revival of peace, justice, and humanity, Aldatmaz said, "However, we know that agreements have been signed before. Israel gave promises but did not keep any of them. Therefore, we will continue to be the voice and hope of Palestine in the future, just as we are today."

Speaking on the articles of the bill, İYİ Party Deputy Chairman and Samsun Deputy Erhan Usta made criticisms regarding the "Terror-Free Turkey" process. Following this, a debate broke out between İYİ Party and DEM Party deputies. As the debate continued, Deputy Speaker of the Parliament Bingöl adjourned the session.

In the separate votes held in the TBMM General Assembly, the Bill on the Approval of the Preferential Trade Agreement Between Turkey and the Maldives, the Bill on the Approval of the Decision No. 01/2024 dated October 30, 2024, of the Free Trade Agreement Joint Committee between the Government of the Republic of Turkey and the Government of Malaysia, the Bill on the Approval of the Maritime Agreement Between Turkey and Malta, and the Bill on the Approval of the Agreement on the Financing of Projects to be Realized in Agreed Areas Between Turkey and Romania were approved.

Following the approval of the bills, Deputy Speaker of the Parliament Bingöl adjourned the session to reconvene on Tuesday, October 14, at 15:00.
