4 people, including the hotel owner, charged with murder by probable intent

A new development has occurred regarding the fire at the Grand Kartal Hotel in Bolu on January 21, 2025, which plunged all of Turkey into mourning.

The prosecutor's final opinion has been prepared for the trial concerning the fire disaster, in which 78 people lost their lives and 133 were injured.

The prosecution has requested sentences for hotel owner Halit Ergül, board member and Ergül's son-in-law Emir Aras, Gazelle Hotel Manager Ahmet Demir, and Grand Kartal Accounting Manager Kadir Özdemir for the crimes of murder by probable intent of 78 people and intentional injury by probable intent of 35 people.

It was also requested that Ergül's wife, Emine Murtezaoğlu, and his daughters, Ceyda Hacıbekiroğlu and Elif Aras, be punished for the crime of "causing the death and injury of more than one person through conscious negligence."

The defendants will present their defense regarding the prosecutor's final opinion at the second hearing of the case, which will be held on September 22.
