Iran According to a report by the Hamshahri newspaper, hundreds of people have been poisoned due to the consumption of bootleg alcohol in the provinces of Mazandaran, Gilan, Hamadan, and Zanjan over the last two weeks.
In these 4 provinces, 48 people who were hospitalized due to severe poisoning caused by methyl alcohol have died, and dozens of people have completely lost their vision.
21 people in Mazandaran, 15 in Gilan, 11 in Hamadan, and 1 in Zanjan lost their lives due to poisoning. It was stated that the individuals who produced and sold the bootleg alcohol have been identified and arrested.
Because alcohol is prohibited in Iran, it is noted that cheaper methyl alcohol is sometimes used instead of ethyl alcohol in illicitly produced drinks, which leads to poisonings that result in deaths and loss of vision.
