5 released in 'Cooperative Case' involving Tunç Soyer: Interim ruling announced

The trial known publicly as the 'cooperative case,' launched following allegations of corruption through subcontractor companies at İZBETON A.Ş., a subsidiary of the İzmir Metropolitan Municipality, continues into its 3rd day. At the end of the first hearing, which was completed in 3 sessions over 3 days, the court panel announced its interim ruling. The decision granted the release of 5 detained defendants.

The trial, which was opened following allegations of corruption through subcontractor companies at İZBETON A.Ş., a subsidiary of the İzmir Metropolitan Municipality, continues with 65 defendants in total, 11 of whom are detained, including former İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer, CHP İzmir Provincial Chair Şenol Aslanoğlu, and former İZBETON General Manager Heval Savaş Kaya.

At the hearing held at the Aliağa Penal Execution Institutions Campus by the İzmir 23rd High Criminal Court, the court began taking statements from the lawyers.

Following the prosecutor's statement of opinion and the defense arguments regarding the opinion by the detained defendants and their counsel, the court panel announced the interim ruling in the 3rd session, which lasted 15 hours.

RELEASE FOR 5 DEFENDANTS

5 individuals who were being tried while detained as part of the 'cooperative' case were released. The individuals released are Mehmet Alphan Bozan, Levent İşler, Mehmet Gürhan Özata, Sevcan Tınaztepe, and Orhan Dölek.

It was decided that the detention of former İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer, CHP İzmir Provincial Chair Şenol Aslanoğlu, former İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Secretary General Barış Karcı, former İZBETON General Manager Heval Savaş Kaya, Cihangir Lübiç, and Hüseyin Şimşek will continue.

It was decided to lift all judicial control measures for the non-detained defendants who provided their defense, and to issue warrants for the compulsory appearance of defendants who have not yet provided their defense.

The second hearing of the case will be held on October 13 at 09:30 at the İzmir Courthouse.
