51 people stranded on Uludağ rescued

All vacationers who were stranded on the chairlift at the Fahri Hotel, located in the First Hotels Zone of Uludağ, the center of winter tourism, due to a technical malfunction, have been rescued.

The system was stopped for safety reasons following a malfunction in the chairlift's gearbox, leaving approximately 51 vacationers suspended in the air. Following the incident, which occurred around 10:30, Gendarmerie Search and Rescue (JAK), AFAD, and Metropolitan Municipality fire department teams were dispatched to the area.

Through the coordinated efforts of the teams, the stranded vacationers were evacuated one by one with the help of ropes. Initially, 51 people were brought down in a short time. The 8 vacationers who were stranded at a point close to the cafeteria area were also safely rescued following the operations carried out.

Authorities reported that there were no deaths or injuries in the incident. It was learned that the evacuation process was carried out cabin by cabin using ropes and manual systems.

Hotel officials stated that they noticed the malfunction when electricity failed to reach the gearbox, stopped the system, and immediately requested help from search and rescue teams. It was noted that the JAK teams reached the area shortly after the notification and began their intervention.

Making statements regarding the rescue efforts on his social media account, Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya said, "Today at around 11:08, a report was received that there was a chairlift malfunction in the Uludağ 1st Hotels zone in the Osmangazi district of our Bursa province and that 51 people were stranded; 96 personnel, 26 pieces of equipment and vehicles from AFAD, Gendarmerie, Health Teams, Municipality, and non-governmental organizations were immediately dispatched to the incident area. To support the rescue efforts carried out in the region, 2 teams from the Sakarya Provincial AFAD Directorate, who are experts in chairlift/cable car rescue, were assigned. The 51 people stranded in the incident were taken to a safe zone as a result of the sensitive rescue work carried out by our professional teams."
