5.8 magnitude earthquake in the Aegean

According to AFAD data, a 5.8 magnitude earthquake occurred at 02:17 at a depth of 36.64 kilometers off the coast of Marmaris.

The earthquake was felt in the districts of Muğla and Aydın.

Teams in the region are continuing scanning operations to determine if there are any negative consequences due to the earthquake.

AFAD reported that a 5.8 magnitude earthquake occurred in the Mediterranean, off the coast of the Marmaris district of Muğla.

While the magnitude of the earthquake was announced as 5.8 by AFAD, the Kandilli Observatory announced the magnitude as 5.7. It was stated that the earthquake was 10.43 km away from Marmaris, Muğla.

STATEMENT FROM MINISTER KURUM

Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum issued a get-well-soon message to citizens who felt the 5.8 magnitude earthquake that occurred in the Mediterranean.

In his post on his social media account, Minister Kurum said, "I convey my best wishes to all our citizens due to the 5.8 magnitude earthquake that occurred off the Mediterranean coast and was felt in surrounding provinces, especially Muğla. As of now, there is no negative situation, and our teams have started field scanning work. May God protect our country and our nation from all kinds of disasters."

STATEMENT FROM THE GOVERNOR OF MUĞLA

Muğla Governor İdris Akbıyık stated in his announcement, "Our field scans are continuing; so far, 11 of our citizens in the Marmaris district have sustained injuries due to the fear and panic they experienced. There is no negative situation for our center, and there are no reports of destruction."

EARTHQUAKE ALSO FELT IN DENİZLİ

The earthquake was felt in Antalya, İzmir, Aydın, and Denizli, primarily in Muğla.

It was reported that there were no negative incidents across the province during the earthquake, which caused short-term panic in Denizli and its districts.
