AFAD reported that a 4.5 magnitude earthquake occurred in İzmir yesterday (May 15).

The Aegean Sea earthquake was not felt in the city center, but tremors continued throughout the night.

Seismologist Prof. Dr. Ahmet Ercan made important warnings on social media regarding the earthquake off the coast of İzmir.

Ercan's statements are as follows:

"The Lesbos-Samos-Karaburun-Foça area is an earthquake zone strained by the Zeytinbağ fault.

The last earthquake was M6.2 on June 12, but it did not release the tension here.

Today's M4.5 in Lesbos shows that the tension continues. The region is pregnant with a major earthquake of M6.5. We do not know the timing."
