6.5 magnitude earthquake warning for that city from Şener Üşümezsoy!

AFAD announced yesterday (November 20) that a 4.5 magnitude earthquake occurred in the Pütürge district of Malatya. Prof. Dr. Şener Üşümezsoy made statements regarding the earthquake.

Pointing out that another earthquake with a magnitude of 6.5 could occur in Malatya, Üşümezsoy stated the following:

“The 4.5 magnitude earthquake that occurred today north of Pütürge, Malatya, frightened people after the February 6 earthquake. In fact, this earthquake was on the fault line that broke at the westernmost end of the Sivrice earthquake. At that time, we constantly emphasized in news reports in Yeniçağ that the Sivrice earthquake had released the fault stress, but the rupture in Pütürge was insufficient, and we stated that this rupture would either start from here to complete the displacement or stress release, potentially leading to a 6.5 magnitude earthquake here, or it would trigger a rupture moving south towards Adıyaman, from Gölbaşı towards Pazarcık.

The earthquake that occurred today is an earthquake in the insufficiently broken sections extending from Pazarcık towards Pütürge. This is not related to the earthquakes on the fault passing through Yeşilyurt in Malatya, which is what the people of Malatya fear. Therefore, this earthquake is an aftershock of the Sivrice earthquake, and it is important in terms of being an earthquake that also triggered the February 6 Pazarcık earthquake, but it does not currently trigger another earthquake itself.”
