Students had expressed their opposition after it was announced that Social Fabric Foundation (Sosyal Doku Vakfı) President Nurettin Yıldız would give a conference at the invitation of the Boğaziçi University Islamic Research Club.
Students who opposed the event due to Yıldız's past remarks defending child marriage organized a protest on the university campus.
During the demonstrations, a total of 96 people were detained, and 6 of these individuals were arrested on charges of "resisting to prevent the performance of a duty."
