6,000 workers employed at the İZDOĞA, İZSU, İZBETON, and İZULAŞ companies could not reach an agreement on the 30 percent wage increase proposal.

The İzmir branches of the Belediye-İş Union, affiliated with Türk-İş, decided to strike and carried out a one-day work stoppage.

In the strike, which was also joined by İZULAŞ drivers, the workers announced that they would continue their protests until they receive their rights.

Gathering at Basmane Square, the workers marched to the İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Egemenlik Building, chanting slogans of "We will win by resisting."
