According to NTV, experts emphasize that demanding a commission on credit card payments is unlawful. When such practices are detected, serious sanctions can be imposed on taxi businesses.
“COMMISSIONS CAN BE RECLAIMED WITH INTEREST”
Lawyer Ali Erdem Gündoğan states that unfairly collected commission fees can be reclaimed through legal channels along with interest. Gündoğan draws attention to the illegality of the practice, saying, “There is a provision stating that no extra fees can be demanded. Despite this, commercial taxis are reflecting the commissions or taxes they should be paying themselves directly onto their customers, which is unlawful.”
FINES OF UP TO 600,000 LIRA CAN BE IMPOSED
Customers can apply to the consumer arbitration committee for commissions that are unfairly demanded. Lawyer Gündoğan states that fines of up to 600,000 lira can be imposed on those who demand extra commissions. Experts remind that the fare should be determined solely based on the amount shown on the taximeter.
