7 new departments within the Ministry of Justice: Presidency established for cold cases

Seven separate departments have been established within the Ministry of Justice. In this context, the newly formed "Department of Cold Case Investigation" will ensure coordination between investigative units in cold case inquiries.

AKIN GÜRLEK ANNOUNCED ON SOCIAL MEDIA

Minister Gürlek included the following statements in his social media post:

"Under the leadership of our President, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and in line with our vision of 'making the Century of Turkey the Century of Justice,' we continue to increase the effectiveness of our criminal justice system.

We are further strengthening our institutional capacity in this field to shed light on cold cases that have left deep marks on the public conscience, such as the 'Gülistan Doku investigation.' We are strengthening specialization in a wide range of areas, from terrorism to organized crime, from digital crimes to combating disinformation, and from disaster processes to clarifying cold case files.

In this context, we have established 7 new departments within our Ministry as of today:

Department of Judicial Custody

Department of Natural Disasters and Accidents

Department of Cold Case Investigation

Department of Public Order, Digital Environment Security and Combating Disinformation

Department of Organized, Narcotic and Economic Crimes

Department of Terror Crimes

Department of Terrorism Financing and Money Laundering Crimes

Our goal is to build a faster, more effective, and more reliable justice system. We will continue to work with determination for the Century of Justice."

GÜRLEK HAD MENTIONED IT DAYS AGO

Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek had announced in a statement on April 21 that they had established a unit within the ministry regarding cold cases.

Stating that all files previously closed without prosecution would be examined one by one, Gürlek had indicated that they would check for any deficiencies or flaws, especially in files that have created public sensitivity.

"A SPECIAL UNIT WILL METICULOUSLY PURSUE THEM"

Expressing that they have established a special unit at the Ministry of Justice regarding unsolved murders, Gürlek spoke as follows:

“We have established a unit. All files, including cold cases and those previously closed without prosecution, are being examined one by one. They will be reviewed to see if there are any deficiencies or flaws. Especially those that create sensitivity and public outrage in society. Of course, everyone's case is important to them, but we have established a unit for cases that create sensitivity in society, and we have moved them there. Now, it is different when experienced eyes look at them. After Gülistan, there is naturally an expectation, but it does not mean every file will necessarily be the same. However, they will be pursued with determination and meticulousness.”
