The truck under surveillance was stopped and searched at the Hendek section of the Anatolian Motorway. As a result of the search, 700 kilograms of horse and donkey meat were seized in the trailer of the truck.
The teams, who launched an investigation into the matter, detained 3 suspects.
It was learned that one of the detained suspects, C.D., had a prior criminal record for "intentionally killing a domestic animal."
DESTROYED
The 700 kilograms of meat, which was seized before it could be put on the market, was determined to be "equine meat" following the examination of samples taken by the District Directorate of Agriculture and was subsequently destroyed.
In a statement made by the Sakarya Provincial Gendarmerie Command regarding the matter, it was stated, "While the Gendarmerie continues to take all kinds of measures for the safety and peace of our people, it will continue its fight with determination against these criminal organizations that play with the health of our citizens.
It is of great importance that our citizens take care to shop from places they know and trust so as not to fall into the hands of these food terrorists," the statement read.
