As search and rescue operations continue in the rubble of the building that collapsed in Gebze this morning, a new development has occurred in the area. Teams evacuated residents living in 8 apartment buildings surrounding the collapsed structure for safety reasons. The buildings in question have been sealed off by municipal police teams.

In the Gebze district of Kocaeli, a 7-story building located on Issıkgöl Street in the Mevlana neighborhood, which housed a pharmacy on the ground floor, collapsed for unknown reasons around 07:00 this morning. Upon notification, numerous AFAD, fire department, UMKE, and medical teams were dispatched to the area. Teams are working intensely to reach a family of 5 believed to be under the rubble. It was learned that the owner living on the top floor and the tenant couple on the middle floor were not at home at the time of the incident.
MOTHER, FATHER, AND THREE CHILDREN UNDER THE RUBBLE
It was stated that those trapped under the rubble are Levent Bilir (44), who has been living in the building for about two years, his wife Emine Bilir (37), and their children Emir (12), Nisa (14), and Dilara Bilir (18). Teams are working non-stop to rescue the family. It was learned that the father, Levent Bilir, was a boiler repairman.
RESIDENTS IN THE VICINITY EVACUATED
Residents living in 8 apartment buildings located around the collapsed building were removed from their homes due to potential risks. Following the evacuation procedures, the buildings were sealed off by municipal police teams.

Kocaeli Governor İlhami Aktaş, who arrived at the region to conduct inspections, made the following statements:
"A collapse occurred in a 7-story building in the Gebze district this morning. There is no information regarding the cause of the collapse. It has been confirmed by their relatives that there is 1 family inside. There is a family of 5. Our teams are trying to reach them. Our teams assigned from neighboring provinces are currently continuing search and rescue operations. Work is currently underway; there is no clear information regarding the collapse. Our relevant colleagues are trying to find the cause of the collapse. We currently have 5 citizens confirmed to be in the building. Our colleagues are conducting listening operations. Our colleagues have not reached anyone yet. There is no clear information regarding the cause of the collapse. Our colleagues are continuing their work. We assess that the family lived on the 2nd floor."
