9 CHP municipal council members resign

In the Karabağlar district of İzmir, 9 CHP municipal council members have resigned from their party, alleging that the party headquarters and municipal administration interfered in the district congress process. Following the resignations, the majority in the Karabağlar Municipal Council has shifted to the People's Alliance.

CHP council members Selami İyier, Kerim Ülge, Savaş Akıncı, Osman Sarı, Ceren Leyla Gür Önalan, İnan Karakoyun, Nurdan Şenkal, Kemal Özdönmez, and Nedim Topaloğlu announced their decision to resign by issuing a joint statement.

In the statement, the council members expressed that the democratic competition was obstructed during the district congress process and that a single candidate was imposed, stating, "This situation has brought us to an intolerable point. We believe that imposition cannot be accepted in our party."

The resigning council members announced that they will continue their duties as independents and will continue to fulfill their responsibilities to the public.

With the resignations, the majority in the Karabağlar Municipal Council has shifted to the People's Alliance.
