A burden on the public: '16.4 million vehicles guaranteed, 2.6 million passed'

CHP Deputy Chairman Deniz Yavuzyılmaz stated that the number of vehicles guaranteed to pass through the Çanakkale Bridge, built under the build-operate-transfer model, was 16 million 425 thousand, while the actual number of vehicles that passed was only 2 million 684 thousand 738. Noting that the AKP's margin of error is 84 percent and that the bridge will be transferred to the public on May 28, 2034, Yavuzyılmaz said, "At this rate, the company will recover the construction cost of the bridge within a few years and will continue to make money until it is transferred to the public."

CHP Deputy Chairman responsible for the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, Deniz Yavuzyılmaz, made a statement regarding the difference between the number of vehicles guaranteed to pass through the Çanakkale Bridge in 2024, built under the build-operate-transfer model, and the actual number of vehicles that passed. Yavuzyılmaz said the following:

"The 2024 loss report for the Çanakkale Bridge, built with the AKP-style build-operate-transfer model, has been released. In 2024, the number of vehicles guaranteed to pass through the Çanakkale Bridge was 16 million 425 thousand, while the actual number of vehicles that passed was only 2 million 684 thousand. In other words, the AKP's margin of error is 84 percent. The opening date of the Çanakkale Bridge is March 18, 2022, and the transfer date to the public is May 28, 2034. Vehicle toll fees are indexed to foreign currency. The European Union inflation difference is also added as a multiplier to the 15 euro+VAT fee every year. The number of daily vehicle passes guaranteed to the company is 45 thousand. At this rate, the company will recover the construction cost of the bridge within a few years and will continue to make money until it is transferred to the public.

Due to the AKP's disastrous economic management, our citizens will continue to pay in 2025 for bridges they do not cross, tunnels they do not enter, and airports they do not land at. While the AKP is giving minimum wage earners a 30 percent salary increase below the poverty line in 2025, and a 11 percent increase to civil servants and pensioners, and a 15 percent increase to SGK and Bağ-Kur pensioners, it continues to raise vehicle toll fees on the Çanakkale Bridge on the other hand."
