A new era in electricity bills: Bargaining opportunities and savings

A new era in electricity bills will begin with the new year.

As of 2025, a new period is starting for electricity bills.

Subscribers with a monthly electricity consumption of 417 kWh or more will now be able to change their electricity suppliers and negotiate to lower their bills.

This new practice offers consumers the opportunity to save between 5 and 10 percent.

CHOOSE YOUR SUPPLIER, SAVE MONEY

According to Posta Newspaper Economy Editor Bilal Emin Turan, subscribers with a monthly electricity consumption of approximately 1,000 TL will have the right to choose their electricity supplier, just as they do with mobile network operators. There are currently more than 200 electricity supply companies in Turkey with an EMRA license.

MORE AFFORDABLE PRICES THROUGH NEGOTIATION

Under the new regulation, consumers will be able to prevent their bills from increasing further by choosing the company that offers the most affordable price. It is also possible to obtain more attractive prices by negotiating with electricity companies.

UP TO 10% SAVINGS ON BILLS

Experts state that if this practice is utilized correctly, consumers could reduce their electricity bills by 5 to 10 percent. 

However, they warn that attention must be paid to the use of high-energy-consuming devices such as air conditioners and electric heaters. These devices can cause an increase of 40 to 50 percent in the bill.
