CHP Chairman Özgür Özel made statements following the 21st Extraordinary Congress held by his party against the "threat of trustees." Stating that the delegates "buried" all kinds of debates regarding the party "in the ballot box" during the congress, Özel emphasized that they overcame their surprise at the operations conducted against their party in a short time, but that President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan "has still not recovered from the Saraçhane shock."
While evaluating the new term for Cumhuriyet following the congress, Özel also reacted sharply to the searches conducted at the summer homes of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu’s father, Hasan İmamoğlu, and his wife, Dilek İmamoğlu, in Bodrum and Çanakkale.
The CHP leader stated that the search was carried out without a lawyer present and by disregarding legal processes.
Özel expressed his reaction to the operation by saying, "They conducted an operation on Ekrem Bey's father's and wife's homes in Bodrum and Çanakkale. Our lawyer friends went quickly to accompany them. Otherwise, they were going to open the door with a locksmith and conduct a search without a lawyer. They could have done anything in that house using FETÖ-style methods."
HE SAID 'THIS IS ALL THEY FOUND'
Regarding the items found during the search, Özel stated, "690 Dollars, 10 Euros, and a few bullets belonging to a licensed firearm were found in the house. A rumor had spread yesterday: Dilek İmamoğlu and Hasan İmamoğlu could be arrested because secret safes, large sums of money, and ammunition would be found in those houses. This is all they found."
