A striking call from Murat Ağırel: The civilian and media wings of the conspiracy must also be investigated

Journalist Murat Ağırel has made a striking statement regarding the overturning of a decision of "no grounds for opening a final investigation" concerning 21 dismissed judges and prosecutors who served in the Ergenekon investigations and prosecutions. Evaluating the objection by the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office and the decision of the İstanbul Anadolu 26th High Criminal Court, Ağırel stated that the conspiracy process should not be limited only to judges, prosecutors, and police personnel, and called for the "civilian and media wings" to be investigated as well.

Journalist Murat Ağırel, in a post on his social media account, evaluated the overturning of the decision made on the grounds of "statute of limitations" regarding 21 dismissed judges and prosecutors who served in the Ergenekon investigations and prosecutions.

Congratulating the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office for the decision in question, Ağırel recalled that with the final decision of the İstanbul Anadolu 26th High Criminal Court dated July 10, 2026, the file was sent back to the Bakırköy 11th High Criminal Court.

"Actions cannot be seen as independent judicial errors"

Emphasizing that the findings in the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office's objection are extremely important, Ağırel stated that the fabrication of evidence, unlawful searches, detention and arrest procedures, and illegal wiretaps cannot be evaluated as independent events.

In his post, Ağırel pointed out that it should be investigated whether the actions in question were carried out in line with an organizational goal.

Arguing that what happened during the Ergenekon and Balyoz processes should be handled comprehensively, Ağırel expressed that the investigation should not remain limited only to members of the judiciary.

"It wasn't just judges, prosecutors, and police personnel"

Stating that there were not only judges, prosecutors, and police personnel in the process he defines as the FETÖ conspiracy era, Ağırel claimed that the operations also had "civilian" and "media" wings.

Ağırel drew attention to the following groups in his post:

"Those who were made to write books during the conspiracy investigations, those who were turned into witnesses in the files, those who carried the organization's theses to the public on television screens, in newspapers, and in books..."

Arguing that some names, whom he claims gave legitimacy to the conspiracy cases at that time, continue their lives today without facing any responsibility, Ağırel expressed that these individuals should also be investigated.

"Today's connections and contacts must also be investigated"

In his post, Ağırel argued that the contacts of some names who use the phrase "my friends in the high judiciary" today should also be uncovered.

Stating that the current connections, contacts, and public opinion-forming activities of individuals for whom there are concrete signs of being part of the FETÖ conspiracy mechanism should also be investigated, Ağırel called for the investigation not to be limited to the past.

"You would only be clarifying half of the file"

Stating that people's lives were ruined in the Ergenekon and Balyoz cases and that many people spent years in prison, Ağırel emphasized that families were torn apart and people lost their lives.

For this reason, stating that not only the judges and prosecutors who made the decisions but all connections of the conspiracy order should be investigated, Ağırel made the following assessment:

"If you investigate the judge-prosecutor wing of the conspiracy but ignore the civilian and media wing, you would only be clarifying half of the file."

"Turkey must face all the actors"

Stating that Turkey must face this dark period and all the actors of the process, Murat Ağırel argued that the people he claims played a role in the conspiracy mechanism of the past are appearing before the public in different positions today.

Ağırel concluded his post with the words, "The actors of this dark period appear before us today as channel owners, so-called journalists, and friends of high-level judicial members."
