The 102nd anniversary of the August 30 Victory Day is being celebrated with enthusiasm across Turkey. 102 years ago, the final phase of the War of Independence was completed with victory through the Great Offensive, and the founder of the Republic of Turkey, Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, and his comrades-in-arms showed the world that Anatolia would remain a Turkish homeland.

While thousands of children of the motherland were martyred during the War of Independence, their painful memories have reached the present day. One of them is the story of Çetmili Kara Ali Çavuş. The tragic event behind the monument depicting "the son carrying his martyred father in his arms" is as follows:

"The father goes to the front due to the Balkan Wars and cannot return home for 10 years until the Great Offensive. Communication with his home is cut off. Later, his son Mehmet, whom he left behind when he was 8 years old, also goes to the military. Kara Ali Çavuş and his son Mehmet meet by chance at Dumlupınar during the Great Offensive. It is a very dramatic scene. They embrace, perhaps reminiscing about their past. Everyone at the front witnesses this. Of course, in the meantime, the war continues at full speed. The father falls as a martyr on August 31 in Dumlupınar, in the arms of his son, whom he was able to see at the front after 10 years. His son Mehmet, who was a standard-bearer, also falls as a martyr on the front lines in İzmir on September 9."

Furthermore, this incident was turned into a documentary in recent years. On the other hand, the story of Çetmili Kara Ali Çavuş was also recounted by the famous actor Ertan Saban in the series 'Gelsin Hayat Bildiği Gibi'. That scene moved the viewers and received great acclaim on social media.
