Hürriyet columnist Abdulkadir Selvi, known for his proximity to the government, stated that Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu has missed two opportunities so far because he was not brave enough. Regarding İmamoğlu, who has once again announced his candidacy for Istanbul for the local elections, Selvi said, "Bells are tolling for İmamoğlu in the CHP."
In his column today, Selvi shared the following assessments regarding İmamoğlu:
"To make a sound assessment of Ekrem İmamoğlu's political future, one must wait for the local election results. Because if he wins the elections, Ekrem İmamoğlu will be reborn. He will once again take his place in the political equation, including a presidential candidacy. But if he loses the elections, the legend of Ekrem İmamoğlu will come to an end.
Ekrem İmamoğlu has failed to seize two major opportunities so far because he was not brave enough. He could not become a candidate for the presidency and for the CHP chairmanship. If he had, a different story could have been written. Opportunity does not knock twice. If Ekrem İmamoğlu also loses the Istanbul elections, then the 'hero's journey' will end in disappointment."
Selvi also noted the following regarding CHP leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, whom the "change advocates" within the party want to see step down:
"Kılıçdaroğlu, who lost the presidential elections, is winning the party congresses. Kılıçdaroğlu has won the major provinces so far, starting with Izmir and Ankara. If he takes the Istanbul congress on October 8, he will declare his victory at the CHP grand congress. Kılıçdaroğlu will win, but I am not sure if the CHP will win."
