Academic Ali Kemal Özcan, known for reading a letter from PKK leader Öcalan before the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality elections, has been suspended from his post as part of a 'terrorism investigation'.

A new development has occurred regarding Munzur University faculty member Prof. Dr. Ali Kemal Özcan, who stated that he went to İmralı before the 2019 Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) elections to meet with Abdullah Öcalan and who announced to the public a letter he claimed to have brought from Öcalan.
The Tunceli Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has launched a judicial investigation into Özcan on the grounds that he praised the leader of a terrorist organization on social media, while the university has initiated an administrative investigation.
ÖZCAN GAVE A STATEMENT
Following a report filed against him for “praising the leader of a terrorist organization,” Özcan was summoned to give a statement at the Tunceli Police Department.
CONFIRMED THE SUSPENSION DECISION
Confirming the judicial and administrative investigations launched against him, Prof. Dr. Ali Kemal Özcan said, “I was summoned to the police station due to a report filed against me. I provided my defense there. The Rectorate has also issued a suspension decision against me as a precautionary measure for the integrity of the investigation, and the decision was served to me today.”
