Access ban had been imposed on his account: Statement from X's lawyer regarding Ekrem İmamoğlu

X's lawyer Gönenç Gürkaynak made a statement regarding the access ban imposed on the X account of IMM President Ekrem İmamoğlu, who is currently detained at Silivri Prison: "Against the court decision that imposed an access ban on Mr. Ekrem İmamoğlu's X account, I will have filed an appeal this morning at the relevant court, at the request of X and in my capacity as X's independent lawyer, setting forth all the legal foundations for our objections regarding the matter."

An access ban has been imposed on the X account of CHP's presidential candidate and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, who has been detained at Silivri Prison since March 23.

While reactions to the decision poured in on social media, many users changed their profile photos to Ekrem İmamoğlu.

"WE WILL FILE AN APPEAL"

A statement regarding the issue came from X's lawyer Gönenç Gürkaynak.

Stating that he would file a lawsuit against the access ban in question, Gürkaynak noted the following:

"Against the court decision that imposed an access ban on Mr. Ekrem İmamoğlu's X account, I will have filed an appeal this morning at the relevant court, at the request of X and in my capacity as X's independent lawyer, setting forth all the legal foundations for our objections regarding the matter. At that point, X will also announce to the public in a separate post that this step has been taken. It is likely that they will also provide a link to the content of the entire petition in that post.

On this occasion, I would like to reiterate the point that has been pinned to my profile since April 3 regarding closed accounts, in relation to the X action concerning Mr. Ekrem İmamoğlu's account: Decisions by courts in our country to impose access bans on the grounds that an account contains unlawful content are not reviewed at my discretion or judgment. These matters are transmitted directly to X by the courts and the relevant administration and are reviewed directly by the client company.

The only point where a duty may fall to me as an independent lawyer is the point where, as in this case, the client instructs to take the matter to judicial review and apply for legal remedies against the relevant court decision."
