The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office issued detention warrants yesterday (March 19) morning for 106 individuals, including Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, Şişli Mayor Resul Emrah Şahan, Beylikdüzü Mayor Mehmet Murat Çalık, and other figures close to İmamoğlu. More than 80 people were taken into custody during morning raids on their homes.
Following the launch of the investigation and the detention orders, access issues began on social media platforms such as X, Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok.
IS BANDWIDTH THROTTLING CONTINUING?
According to Netblocks, which monitors internet restrictions worldwide, bandwidth throttling is being applied to social media platforms in Turkey, and the social media restriction remains in effect. Users attempting to access the video platforms TikTok and YouTube via desktop and mobile, or trying to watch videos, continue to encounter loading problems.
According to Downdetector, which compiles reports on site access issues globally, access problems are being experienced in Turkey on X and Instagram, as well as YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, and WhatsApp.
HAS THE BTK MADE A STATEMENT?
There is currently no decision for a shutdown or access ban issued by the Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK) regarding these platforms.
