Accused of child abuse! Statement from the Ilim Yayma Society
A statement has been issued by the lawyer for the Ilim Yayma Society regarding Prof. Dr. Ahmet Akın, a member of the society's board of directors, who is facing allegations of child abuse. Allegations of child abuse and harassment have emerged regarding Prof. Dr. Ahmet Akın, a member of the board of directors of the Ilim Yayma Society. It has been revealed that Prof. Dr. Ahmet Akın, the former Dean of the Faculty of Educational Sciences at Istanbul Medeniyet University, conducted sessions under the name of 'conversion therapy.' Children have alleged that they were subjected to abuse and harassment during these sessions.
Selçuk Kar, the lawyer for the society, made statements to Can Öztürk from T24. Kar stated, "On the fifth, meaning as soon as these reports came out, he submitted his resignation that same day. We accepted it."
The statement from Ilim Yayma Society lawyer Selçuk Kar is as follows:
'HE SUBMITTED HIS RESIGNATION'
"He submitted his resignation to us. It must have been on the fifth, meaning as soon as these reports came out, he submitted his resignation that same day. We accepted it. He submitted his resignation by saying, 'There are baseless allegations against me. I will initiate a legal battle regarding these allegations. And until I am cleared as a result of this legal battle, I request to be excused from the management of the society.' This petition was processed. His name was also removed from the management list.
In other words, he has currently severed his ties with the Ilim Yayma Society by resigning himself. However, I must state this; the lynching of a person unilaterally is clearly against the law. Of course, the judiciary will reveal the outcome of this. Everyone must respect the decision of the law if there is one. Professor Ahmet has the right not to be tarnished; this is a constitutional right, the right not to be tarnished. He stated that he resigned from the society until he clears his name before the judiciary. He informed us that 'he is innocent, that he is not guilty, and that he will prove this, and that he has ended his relationship with the society until he proves it.' We respected this and, of course, ended our relationship with him."
